Comment bien choisir son filtre pour bassin de jardin ?

How to choose the right garden pond filter?

Which fish pond filtration system to choose? How do I choose my pond filter? All the answers to your questions are in this guide.

When properly chosen, fish pond filtration contributes to maintaining the balance of the ecosystem in this water point. Indeed, the garden pond is an installation located outside and it is advisable to always monitor the state of the water to avoid an increased level of pollution and to ensure the oxygenation of the water.

The different types of filters for aquatic ponds

The fish pond filtration system consists of a pump, a filter and an ultraviolet device which is used to prevent the proliferation of germs. Other equipment is sold with starter bacteria and oxygen to ensure that the filter has a colony of bacteria with a purifying function. Among the pond filter models currently available, here are the ones most used for a fish pond:

The gravity filter

Suitable for large pools, the gravity filter is placed at ground or water level, outside the pool to facilitate maintenance. A submerged pump is responsible for recovering the water from the pool to send it to the filter before returning it once it has been able to pass through the purification system with self-cleaning function.

The pressure filter

For a medium or small sized pond, the pressure filter is buried below the water level to function properly. The filtration process is like that of the gravity filter, but the installation is particularly effective for a pond with a stream.

The underwater filter

Equipped with an integrated water jet, the underwater filter is placed under preformed basins and versions made up of containers such as improvised basins based on basins or old wine barrels.

UV filtration

To fight against the proliferation of bacteria, germs and phytoplankton, the fish pond requires the addition of a UV filter.
