Which fish to choose for an outdoor pond?

There are plenty of different species of fish to put in your pond. Goldfish, melanote fish, sturgeons, notropis, ... Which fish to choose for your garden pond? It's simple and I'll help you! We will have to take into account the characteristics of the fish. Some like to dig the bottom, others love plants, others are almost invisible and reproduce very quickly.

Here is a list of fish that are suitable for a garden pond:

  • Studs: it is often called the bottom cleaner or the algae eater. However, it is not because it feeds on the bottom that it will clean your whole pond. The stud has a small brown body with black patterns. It can reach a size of 12 to 15CM. Its life expectancy is 5 years. We advise you minimum 70CM depth for a healthy gudgeon and a spawning area at 20CM. It is advisable to put it in shoals of at least 10 fish. It feeds mainly on insects and worms.   • Sun perch: In nature, a sun perch can reach a size of 20CM. These perches can live up to 10 to 12 years. This fish needs a depth of 70CM and a spawning area at 20CM. We recommend limiting sun perches in the pool. They are recommended in a koi pond if you want to limit reproduction.
