Snail traps for freshwater aquariums. An aquarium snail trap is a device designed to capture snails that are in the aquarium. There are several types of snail traps, but they generally work the same way: the snail enters the trap by following a palatable substance (such as lettuce or beer) and cannot get out. Snail traps are often made of plastic or metal and can be placed in the aquarium to capture unwanted snails. They are useful for eliminating excess snails without having to use chemicals or manually remove each snail.
