Perennial aquatic plants

Perennial aquatic plants. Aquatic plants are essential for maintaining the biological and chemical balance of a body of water. They provide filtration, pH and mineralization restoration, as well as feeding and creating spawning areas for aquatic fauna.

Floating plants such as water lilies and arrowheads absorb nitrates and provide shade in the center of the pond. Totally submerged plants such as elodea and milfoil contribute to water oxygenation, water clarity, and provide spawning support and protection for fish and fry. In winter, the plants disappear, allowing the water to warm and the sun to shine through the water table.
