Aquipond Blue Lake 10 is a concentrated blue dye for ponds, lakes, basins and bodies of water, supplied in water-soluble sachets. It gives the water a blue tint and helps limit the growth of algae and submerged aquatic plants.
How it works
The dye filters out some of the light used by plants for photosynthesis, namely certain wavelengths that promote their growth. Algae and submerged plants receive less energy: their growth is slowed and gradually reduced.
The water takes on a blue tint and a more uniform appearance. The dye does not make the water clearer: it works by reducing the available light. According to the manufacturer, it contains neither herbicides nor pesticides.
For which bodies of water?
Fishing ponds, ornamental ponds, lakes and large bodies of water where algae and submerged plants grow. Bodies of water with high water turnover are less suitable: its effectiveness is reduced.
Plants and algae affected
Submerged aquatic plants
- Watermilfoil
- Canadian pondweed
- Egeria densa
- Najas major
- Ceratophyllum
- Charophytes
Algae
- Filamentous algae
- Microalgae (green water)
- Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae)
The dye does not affect emergent plants or floating plants. For regulated invasive alien species (EU Regulation 1143/2014), manual removal and reporting remain the foundation: the dye only limits the regrowth of submerged plants.
Dosage
-
Algae: 1 x 100 g sachet per 1,000 m² of water surface
-
Submerged plants: 2 x 100 g sachets per 1,000 m² of water surface
Lasts 4 to 6 weeks, depending on sunlight, rainfall and water turnover. With this pack: up to 50,000 m² for algae, or up to 25,000 m² for submerged plants.
Directions for use
- Place the water-soluble sachet directly in the water: it dissolves gradually and disperses the dye throughout the body of water.
- Start at the beginning of spring, before the plants have fully developed.
Important information and precautions
- According to the manufacturer: biodegradable and safe for fish, aquatic wildlife and swimming when used at the recommended doses.
- Bodies of water connected to a watercourse or subject to authorization: check local regulations before adding anything.
- Avoid bodies of water with high water turnover: its effectiveness is reduced.
- The dye is part of a comprehensive strategy: water aeration, suitable bacteria and reduced nutrient inputs.
Pack contents
- 50 water-soluble sachets of 100 g each (5 kg net)
- Maximum areas: up to 50,000 m² for algae, up to 25,000 m² for submerged plants
