The EB series bead filters have a very robust PE body and are equipped as standard with a bottom drain to evacuate dirt, a 6-way valve, a transparent lid, granules and a fan. very reliable (equipped with a noise limiter).
  • The EB series has 6 models for ponds from around 10,000 to around 100,000 litres.
  • The large lid allows excellent accessibility for topping up pellets and possibly carrying out maintenance.
  • The filters are delivered with beads included.
  • WARNING : maximum operating pressure 1.2 bar (12 meters). Bead filters are also ideal for swimming ponds! They guarantee clear and healthy water!

Bead filters are closed systems (under pressure) filled with several million plastic beads (“beads”). Because these balls float in water, they provide mechanical filtration. In addition, thanks to their large adhesion surface, they also provide biological filtration.

    • Mechanical filtration: the marbles float in a closed tank and closely touch each other. The water is forced by the pressure of the pump through the balls, so that the impurities cling to the balls. Over time, a biofilm (a sticky layer) forms around the beads, retaining ultrafine impurities.
    • Biological filtration: the plastic balls have an adhesion surface of approximately 1600 m² (ie six times greater than a blue Japanese carpet). The film around the balls therefore offers an enormous contact surface for bacteria to decompose ammonium and nitrite.

Which Econobead for my pond?

Unlike most multi-stage filter systems, it is not only the volume of the pond, but also the (future) fish population that matters when choosing an EconoBead filter. Too often, we do not take into account the significant growth of koi, nor the expansion of their population. For multi-stage systems, it is therefore necessary to reserve a large space to be able to install the filter, while the dimensions of the EconoBead filters hardly differ from one model to another, because it is in particular the quantity of the filter material (the number of marbles) that matters.

The largest model requires no more than one square meter. We therefore recommend that you first check the (future) fish population in your pond in the model table and secondly the volume of your pond. For ponds and ponds without koi, we advise you to double the volume of the pond indicated in the table.

Which pump for an Econobead filter?

Since EconoBead filters are pressure filters, the pump must be installed upstream of the filter. In general, swimming pool pumps are suitable, but also some pond pumps with a delivery height of at least 6 to 7 meters. Do not forget to take into account the pressure drop, due to the presence of the filter and the pipes. Make sure that the pump can still – at a resistance of 0.2 – 0.3 bar (2 – 3 meters) – have a pumping rate of half the pond volume per hour. If the EconoBead Bypass system is applied, it is possible to use pumps with lower pressure, resulting in significant savings in electricity costs!

Only for ponds?

No, EconoBead filters are also perfectly suitable for freshwater or saltwater aquariums and have proven to be very effective for swimming ponds.

Econobead ByPass System

The bypass system allows the use of energy-efficient pumps. Thanks to a very compact bypass system, the six-way valve is completely bypassed during filtration and the water enters and exits the filter in a straight line. The pressure drop is thus at least 30% lower (depending on the type of pump). The by-pass system is very easy to assemble thanks to the threaded connections.
