Half-round floating plant island type 121

Half-round floating plant island type 121

• Floating plant islands are a perfect habitat for animals, plants, microorganisms and bacteria. They contribute significantly and naturally to improving the water quality in ponds. Floating plant islands absorb nutrients from the water and are also a biotope for water birds, insects, fish, snails and thousands of small organisms. With minimal maintenance, they are self-sustaining. The islands can easily accommodate commercially available aquatic plants. The roots of these plants extend deep into the water and absorb the dissolved excess nutrients, depriving the algae of their food source. In addition, the islands create shade that protects the fish from the sun's rays. Ideal plants for these floating islands include: Myosotis sylvatica (forget-me-nots), Caltha palustris (marsh populace), Iris pseudoacorus (yellow iris), Lythrum salicaria (common loosestrife), Filipendula ulmaria (meadowsweet), Juncus ensifolius (dwarf rush), Iris setosa (arctic iris), Mimulus luteus (mimulus), cardinalis (scarlet primrose or cardinal), Primula florindae (Tibetan primrose), Mentha aquatica (water mint), Geum rivale (sea avens), Gratiola officinalis (gratiole officinale), Houttonia cordata (marsh anemone), Rumex sanguineus (sorrel), Cyperus longus (sweet nutsedge), Carex acutiformis (marsh sedge), Glyceria maxima Variegata (variegated aquatic wisteria), Preslia cervina (deer mint), Sisirynchium californicum (California Bermudian), Thypha minima, (small cattail), Lysimachia thyrsiflora (spike-flowered lysimachus), Juncus inflexus (glaucous rush), Phalaris arundinacea (false reed canopy).
