Should we cut off the UV when we put bacteria in a pond?
A UV kills bacteria that are free in the water. After just a few hours, when your filtration system is seeded with bacteria, you can turn your UV system back on. A UV system for ponds kills bacteria suspended in the water, but not attached bacteria, those that are in the filter or under a liner or in a lagoon.
In fact, we recommend turning off the UV for 48 hours to give the bacteria time to attach to your biofilm, your filter media and the areas favorable to bacteria present in the pond.
Be careful of rumors, a classic plastic UV does not kill pathogenic bacteria. You should opt for a SYNERGY or NIROX type UV specifically germicidal which generally cost at least €600.
