CHOOSING THE CORRECT DEVICE

The choice of the correct UV-C device is determined by the water flow rate. The latter specifically determines the radiation intensity, expressed in mJ/sec.

The required radiation intensity depends primarily on the type of pond and its fish population. Scientific studies have demonstrated the radiation rates needed to block microorganisms. For ornamental ponds, 8 to 10 mJ is required; for swimming pools and ponds with high fish density, it is between 16 and 25 mJ. Many types of algae perish at a radiation level of 5 mJ. Legionella is rendered harmless at a dosage of 19 mJ or higher. A koi or swimming pond requires a higher dose to combat harmful organisms.
