- Vertical positioning (therefore higher efficiency with less pollution)
CHOOSING THE RIGHT DEVICE
The choice of the correct UV-C device is determined by the water flow rate. This in turn determines the intensity of the radiation, expressed in mJ/sec.
The required radiation intensity depends mainly on the type of pond and its fish population. Scientific studies have demonstrated the radiation levels required to kill microorganisms. For ornamental ponds, a dose of between 8 and 10 mJ is required; for swimming pools and ponds with many fish, it is between 16 and 25 mJ. Many types of algae die at a radiation level of 5 mJ. Legionella is rendered harmless at a dose of 19 mJ or more. A koi or swimming pond requires a higher dose to combat harmful organisms.
