CHOOSING THE CORRECT DEVICE

The choice of the correct UV-C device is determined by the water flow rate. The latter determines, in particular, the intensity of the radiation, expressed in mJ/sec.

The required radiation intensity depends mainly on the type of pond and its fish population. Scientific studies have demonstrated the radiation levels needed to block micro-organisms. For ornamental ponds, 8 to 10 mJ is needed; for swimming pools and ponds with many fish, it is between 16 and 25 mJ. Many types of algae perish starting from a radiation of 5 mJ. Legionella is rendered harmless at a dosage of 19 mJ or more. A koi or swimming pond requires a higher dose to fight harmful organisms.
