CHOOSING THE CORRECT DEVICE

Choosing the correct UV-C device is determined by the water flow rate. The latter specifically determines the radiation intensity, expressed in mJ/sec.

The required radiation intensity depends primarily on the type of pond and its fish population. Scientific studies have demonstrated the radiation rates needed to block microorganisms. For ornamental ponds, you need between 8 and 10 mJ; for swimming pools and ponds with many fish, it is between 16 and 25 mJ. Many types of algae perish starting at a radiation level of 5 mJ. Legionella is rendered harmless at a dosage starting at 19 mJ. A koi or swimming pond requires a higher dose to fight harmful organisms.
