How to get trout in a pond?

Trout is a popular fish for many anglers using spinning and fly fishing. This very common species of the salmon family, which lives in cold rivers and lakes, is characterized not only by its decent size, but also by its excellent fighting qualities.

Trout, once hooked, causes as much excitement in the angler as a solid carp or pike. That is why it is so popular among spinning and fly fishing enthusiasts. In this article we will talk about what to do to catch trout in a pond, what time of year this fish is more active, what baits are used for which tackle.

General information on trout fishing

On public lakes, trout are fished all year round. In summer, it is less mobile and hunts early in the morning or in the evening. Most of the time the fish stays under woods, sloping banks or fallen tree trunks in the water. An important point to mention about this is the fact that Trout often stay near aerators in winter, where the water is better supplied with oxygen.

A large number of specialized publications as well as the experience of many anglers indicate that it is best to fish for trout with fishing tackle such as float rods, wire rods, fly fishing and the reel. The most accessible and easy to master is the float and the most expensive and rather complicated to master is the fly.

For trout fishing, the casting tackle consists of the following: a carbon rod with a bait test of 3.5 to 12 grams. The length of fishing rods, depending on the fishing conditions, varies from 180-240 (for small rivers and streams with overgrown banks) to 270-300 cm (for pond fishing).

How to use bait to catch trout

The paste is a universal bait for trout fishing with a rod or reel. It can be used at any time and in any weather. It's inexpensive, the fish love it, and it's a mix of protein and flavor. The paste has different colors, the most effective are carrot color, pink and white.

The flavors used are those preferred by fish and trout paste comes in two types: flowing and floating. The use of one or the other depends on the water levels in which the trout are hunting. If it rises to the surface, floating dough is preferable, if it stays deep, flowing dough will be more suitable.

When is the best time to have trout in a pond?

Autumn is the best time to fish for trout in ponds. From September to January, the fish spawn, so there is a high chance of catching fish with eggs. As they prepare for winter, they grow in size, relax their vigilance and react to almost any bait. Fall fishing differs from summer fishing in that the trout are in constant motion, they migrate around the pond, feeding in deep and shallow water.

For those who are skeptical about this type of fishing, we can only say one thing: the fish do not always bite as many imagine. It takes a long time to find the secret, to find out which trout will be caught in the fall, because in fishing grounds it can be as capricious as fish in natural conditions. Among dozens of pasta, the fish will prefer the one you thought of at the very last moment, and among all the baits it will react only to a hook, the way of which no one knows how it got into the box. In a nutshell, the fish has character and cannot be caught so easily.

Peculiarities of fishing on basins and ponds

In general, the fishing technique is not much different from usual fishing on normal bodies of water. However, anglers have noted the effectiveness of floating bait and hooks, as well as the large number of fish caught on the latter. The fishing technique is a simple bait throw.

Throwing the bait into the surface of the water, you need to pull it up, slightly shaking it from side to side. If desired, it is possible to pull the line forward without spooling, but it is worth varying the pace. If there is a current on the body of water, the bait simply sinks into the water and the line remains taut. When choosing a fishing spot during the summer months, it is good to remember that trout choose cool areas of the body of water. At other times of the year it is possible to try casting bait in different fishing areas.

Which equipment to favor for trout fishing in a pond?

To find the most effective equipment, it is advisable to buy a fishing rod with high elasticity, which will help to contain the strong resistance of fish and jerkbaits (the lure fish used for fishing). In addition, the spinning should not be heavy, so it is advisable to choose the ultralight class. The length of the line should be approximately 2.2m (maximum 2.5m), and the sinker should not exceed 15 grams.

Fishing line: monofilament type of line with a diameter of about 0.20 mm is recommended for fishing. A small thickness will not scare the fish away, moreover, it is a great way to dampen the shooting effect. Braided line is rarely used for trout fishing because the fish see it in the water and are wary of it.
