Copper 10.5 x 11 cm
This elegant cult incense burner with its generous, curved lines bears the lucky bird on its lid. Its name 'Kotobuki' means happiness.
In Japan, these beautiful incense burners are objects of worship, precious gifts and an essential element of home decoration. Fill your incense burner with rice ash so that you can stick the incense sticks in it. Having no bamboo support, they then burn completely without leaving a trace.
In 1611, Maeda Toshinaga, lord of the Kaga Domain in Takaoka City, invited seven metal casters to help boost the area's economy. This event marked the beginning of a long tradition of cast iron, with the craftsmanship being passed down from generation to generation to the present day. Although it has been in decline in recent decades, the Takaoka region remains the most important center of cast iron production in Japan. Takaoka copper craftsmanship has even been recognized as a National Traditional Craft and an Intangible Cultural Property.
