The bite of a horsefly that feeds on blood can be particularly painful and embarrassing for both humans and animals. Their larvae hibernate in moist areas near streams, lakes, ponds or swamps.
April marks the massive appearance of the first adult horseflies whose population is a recurring problem for horses, cattle and people living around these areas. The H-TRAP is also very effective in ensuring the tranquility of domestic animals that are often victims of painful bites (horses, cattle, etc.). For example, reductions of 90-95% in horsefly numbers have been observed.
How to optimize your installation:
- To maximize the interception of horseflies before they reach their prey, identify their volpotential trajectory from wetlands (ponds, river banks, etc.) to places of human or animal habitation.
- Determine if multiple H-TRAPs should be installed.
- Install your H-TRAP(s) between these areas, but preferably near living areas, such as stables.
- Install your H-TRAPs early enough, preferably just before the appearance of the first adult horseflies in April.
- Check the traps once a week by emptying and refilling the tray with soapy water if necessary.
- If your H-TRAP does not trap a sufficient number of horseflies when you are sure that the emergence of the first adults has started, reposition the trap.
