Aerating a pond of 5,000 m² to one hectare: preparing a coherent project

On a 5,000 m² pond or a one-hectare pond, the main risk is buying equipment based on a surface-area figure without examining the depths and isolated areas. A coherent installation starts with the site plan and with one question: where does circulation and oxygenation really need to be improved?

Divide the site into useful sectors

Identify the main basin, inlets, shallow areas, and deep holes. Map the water inflows and outflows. In an elongated pond or one divided by vegetation, a device placed in the center may leave some areas poorly mixed. The number of devices therefore cannot be determined solely from the total surface area.

If you lack data on the bottom topography, start with a few representative surveys or have a suitable survey carried out. Better knowledge of the volume helps avoid confusing a large shallow pond with a much more voluminous lake.

Build the project around its uses

  • For a fishing pond, monitor the population, feeding, and areas frequented by the fish.
  • For a landscaped property, specify the views to highlight and the noise constraints.
  • For a site open to the public, organize access, mooring, and maintenance.
  • For a deep body of water, assess stratification before causing significant mixing.

Compare equipment categories

Floating devices move the water near their operating area. A diffuser network can distribute several mixing points, provided that the compressor supplies the expected flow at the actual pressure. Some sites justify a combination. It should be decided on the plan, not by accumulating devices purchased separately.

OASE describes an optical range of up to 5,000 m² for the 1.5 kW AirFlo. This figure concerns the visual effect: it must not be presented as a promise of uniform oxygenation across 5,000 m². Choosing the variant and placement requires technical validation.

Prepare the power supply and operation

Have the voltage, protections, cable routing, mooring distances, and access for retrieving each device specified. A longer cable, an electrical substation, or several air lines can change the budget. Compare the complete project, including energy consumption and cleaning operations.

The person responsible for the site must know how to check operation, record measurements, and report a failure. Planning this organization from the time of purchase is better than installing equipment that no one monitors.

Evaluate the result at several points

Choose control points in the main pond and in sensitive areas. Record temperature and oxygen at the same depths and at comparable times. Also keep notes on wind, weather, and vegetation. This monitoring makes it possible to adjust the project based on facts rather than the appearance of the surface.

Frequently asked questions

Is one aerator enough for one hectare?

It depends on the geometry, depths, and requirements. Several isolated areas may require multiple intervention points.

Is a three-phase power supply required?

Some variants require it, while others operate on single-phase power. Check the exact reference and the available installation before ordering.
