Today, probiotics are no longer only found in yoghurts or as dietary supplements for humans – they have also found their way into the diet of ornamental fish. Since 2016, the intestinal flora stabiliser Bacillus velezensis (previously B. subtilis ) is authorised for use in ornamental fish feed, being even expressly recommended by the EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) to promote fish growth and improve feed assimilation.

In 2016, sera was the first manufacturer to react immediately and launch an innovative probiotic food for koi on the market: "Koi All Seasons Probiotic". As part of the rebranding of the sera brand, the name was changed to "Koi Professional Probiotic".

Koi Professional Probiotic is suitable for feeding koi all year round when the water temperature is above 8°C. The co-extruded pellets contain – in addition to the traditional natural and functional ingredients of sera, such as MOS, beta-glucans, Haematococcus algae, spirulina, etc. – the probiotic Bacillus velezensis stabilizing the intestinal flora of fish. While promoting their health and improving the assimilation of food. Koi have a rapid and balanced growth and the pollution of the water by excretion products, which are toxic for fish and promote algae, is significantly reduced.

In order to benefit from these positive effects permanently, the special food should be used throughout the year (when the water temperature is above 8°C), at least a few times a week, as a replacement for the seasonal food. It is, of course, also suitable as a compound food.
