Populating a pond: what you need to know

One of the first things to remember when trying to stock a pond with fish is to ensure the proper balance of the pond. Therefore, before introducing fish to a new pond, we recommend that you carry out a water analysis.

Allow about six weeks before introducing new fish. In terms of water volume, it will be necessary to count that a fish requires at least 5 liters of water per centimeter.

How to recognize pond fish?

For a pond enthusiast like you, it remains essential to be able to differentiate between the different fish.

Here, we focused on the fish found in natural ponds. A few favorites are therefore missing, such as the minnow and the ides. Similarly, notropis and other increasingly popular fish species are not yet on this list, but they will be soon!

A pond, a lake, or any other type of body of water is classified in the second category. In this case, the rivers are in the first category, so there is often not the same type of fish in the rivers.

Otherwise, it is more complicated to find trout in a pond. If you are used to walking along the river, you may have noticed that the water is often cooler and more conducive to certain species of fish.

bleak

Generally small in size, the bleak is a silvery fish that can also be found in waterways. From its scientific name Alburnus alburnus, the alburne moves in shoals and appreciates slow currents of water.
