This pressure filter provides mechanical and biological treatment of ornamental or bathing pond water. It often contains a substrate composed of floating plastic balls, the specific shape of which allows bacterial overgrowth. The ''good'' bacteria will settle around these balls to form the biofilm. This bacterial growth prevents even the finest waste from passing through these filter media (mechanical filtration) and transforms toxic waste into harmless elements (biological filtration).
💡 To know: 1m³ of "beads" represents on average 1350m² of bacterial surface on average.
How it works?
The water enters the tank through a pump. It then rises through the balls colonized by the bacteria, then crosses the strainers and progresses to the multiway valve and then returns to the basin. The high-flow booster, mounted on a non-return valve, is useful when cleaning the filter.
- How does mechanical filtration work?
Decanting removes the largest particles in suspension (>50µ). The finest particles (>20µ) are retained in the beads thanks to the network created by the bacterial biofilm. This is called bio-absorption. This network developed on a microscopic scale retains the majority of waste, even invisible to the naked eye. - How does biological purification take place?
The bacteria growing on the surface of the balls form a biofilm which transforms toxic nitrogenous waste (ammonia, nitrite) into nitrates. At maturity, this biofilm develops into a compact “magma”. Biological purification is then optimal and the denitrification necessary for the fight against algae can take place.
Easy cleaning
In almost all brands, you will find a 6-way valve and a booster that allows very efficient rinsing of the filtration substrate.
Our different models
There are two main families: classic bead filters similar to swimming pool sand filters and hourglass-shaped SuperBeads, a reference in the world of the pool! The big advantage of the latter is that it does not necessarily have to be equipped with a pressure pump.
