What You Need to Get Started

Step-by-Step Setup

1. Set up the aquariumOn its stand or a stable, level surface, away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
2. Fill with waterRinse the substrate and decorations, fill with water treated with conditioner, then turn on the filter (and the heater for a Tropical kit).
3. Allow the nitrogen cycle to establishIn an aquarium, waste (food scraps, excrement) turns into ammonia and then nitrites, which the filter bacteria gradually convert into nitrates. These bacteria take time to establish: add a product such as Aquipond NitriBoost Aquarium, following the dosage on the product sheet, and test the nitrite levels before adding fish.
4. Add fish graduallyStart with a few fish suitable for the volume, allow them to acclimate, then add more little by little. Feed them sparingly at first.
5. Maintain regularlyChange part of the water regularly and rinse the filter sponge in aquarium water, never under the tap.

Frequently Asked Questions

Goldfish or Tropical: what's the difference?

The Start 20 Goldfish is designed for goldfish. Tropical kits (30 to 150) come with a heater for tropical fish.

Is the stand included?

No, it is ordered separately, in the same colour and size as your aquarium. Storage baskets are sold separately.

When can I add fish?

After the filter has been set up and bacteria have been added, when nitrite tests show it is safe. Then add them gradually.
