Nanbu Tekki: quality and tradition
This cast-iron teapot was made in Morioka, Japan, by the family-owned company Iwachu. If you are a tea lover, this beautiful and practical object is sure to appeal to you. It was manufactured in accordance with Japan's very strict food safety standards, so you can use it with complete confidence (see the Public Health Certificate). It is certainly one of the best teapots on the market.
Nature-inspired decoration
The surface of this teapot is decorated with the famous Japanese Seigaiha wave pattern. Traces of this traditional depiction of the sea can be found as far back as the 6th century. It is a symbol of tranquility and good luck.
Each Iwachu teapot is made using an artisanal process involving more than 60 steps, including:
- The inner and outer molds are made by hand.
- Molten cast iron is poured into the mold.
- Once it has cooled, the mold is broken to remove the teapot.
- All edges are filed.
- The interior is enameled.
- The exterior surface is painted.
- Once the paint is dry, the teapot is carefully packaged.
Iwachu has been making cast-iron objects for more than 100 years. When you buy your teapot, make sure it has the Made in Japan logo on the bottom; this is your guarantee of quality.
Did you know?
More than 1,200 years ago, the priest Saicho brought the first tea plant to Japan. Kissa Yokoji wrote in 1191: “Tea is a miraculous remedy for staying healthy. Today, as in the past, tea is the elixir that guides every person who climbs the mountain of immortality.” At first, it was a drink reserved for the nobility, but during the Edo period (1603 –1868), the tea ceremony and all the elements that accompany it, such as cast-iron teapots, became very popular throughout Japan. Today, green tea is an integral part of the soul of the Land of the Rising Sun; the Japanese enjoy it at any time of day.
