Due to its large volume, the Fresh-Skim protein skimmer is above all extremely efficient. Since the proteins are removed directly from the water column, the filtration system is subjected to significantly less strain. The biological load on the water is therefore lower and, in addition, the air bubbles introduce a great deal of extra oxygen into the water. These two factors promote fish growth and water clarity. The recommended flow rate is based on a minimum contact time of 1 minute, meaning that, in addition to its high efficiency, the Fresh-Skim can also be used as a safe ozone reactor. If a connection to an ozone generator is used, it is recommended to route the escaping air to a residual ozone destructor to prevent ozone from being released. There are 2 options for positioning the Redox electrode in the pipe system: either in the line between the pump and the Fresh-Skim, i.e. upstream of the ozone dosage, or in the water flowing out of the Fresh-Skim, i.e. downstream of the ozone dosage—or, ideally, both. Larger models are available on request. The ceramic air diffusers should be replaced every year to ensure maximum performance. From a technical standpoint, the pump can ideally draw water from a screen or drum filter and then return it freely to the pond through the Fresh-Skim, without back pressure.
