Species-appropriate nutrition is essential to optimize the stunning colors of koi. An adapted content of spirulina microalgae in the food promotes color saturation and intensification, as well as a clear separation of the different color zones. White zones are vibrant, without any yellowish cast.
Spirulina consists of more than 50% protein and contains all essential amino acids as well as many unsaturated fatty acids. Furthermore, this alga is characterized by a wide variety of vitamins and minerals. Astaxanthin, for example, promotes colors, particularly in the red areas. Astaxanthin is a vitamin-like pigment that strengthens the immune system, acts as an antioxidant, and promotes fertility. For its food, sera uses exclusively the natural, highly bioavailable variant of astaxanthin. The Haematococcus alga (60.5 mg of astaxanthin per kg of food) is primarily used as the source of astaxanthin. However, ingredients such as krill and spirulina also contribute to the supply of astaxanthin and other important pigments.
Koi Professional Color consists of two components: the ring and the core of the food. This is made possible by a special co-extrusion process, which allows for the combination of raw materials processed in different ways. The ring contains high-quality natural ingredients, such as spirulina and Haematococcus algae, for unique colors and species-appropriate nutrition. The core consists of, among other things, essential vitamins, minerals, and trace elements for healthy growth and a strong immune system.
The special color food can be fed all year round when the water temperature is above 8 °C.

Feed several times a week in small amounts throughout the year, alternating with seasonal food, giving the animals only what they can consume in a short time.
