Today, probiotics are no longer found only in yogurt or as dietary supplements for humans – they have also found their place in the nutrition of ornamental fish. Since 2016, the intestinal flora stabilizer Bacillus velezensis (formerly B. subtilis) has been authorized for use in ornamental fish feed, and is even explicitly recommended by EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) for promoting fish growth and improving food assimilation.
In 2016, sera was the first manufacturer to react immediately and launch an innovative probiotic food for koi on the market: "Koi All Seasons Probiotic". As part of the sera brand rebranding, the name was changed to "Koi Professional Probiotic".
Koi Professional Probiotic is suitable for feeding koi throughout the year when the water temperature is above 8°C (46°F). The co-extruded pellets contain – in addition to traditional natural and functional sera ingredients, such as MOS, beta-glucans, Haematococcus algae, spirulina, etc. – the probiotic Bacillus velezensis, which stabilizes the fish's intestinal flora. This promotes their health and improves food assimilation. Koi achieve rapid and balanced growth, and water pollution caused by excretory products, which are toxic to fish and promote algae, is significantly reduced.
In order to permanently benefit from these positive effects, the special food should be used year-round (when the water temperature is above 8°C), at least a few times a week, as a replacement for the seasonal food. It is, of course, also suitable as a complete food.
Koi Professional Range
Within its Koi Professional range, sera offers premium food for koi, adapted to the needs of cold-blooded animals during the different seasons (Spring & Fall, Summer, Winter). In addition, Koi Professional Color and Probiotic are two functional foods that can be fed to fish all year round. Koi Professional Junior has been specifically developed to meet the nutritional needs of small koi.

Throughout the year, alternating with seasonal foods, feed several times a week in small portions, giving the animals only as much as they can consume in a short time.
