Nanbu Tekki: quality and tradition
This cast-iron teapot was made in Morioka, Japan, by the family-run company Iwachu. If you are a tea lover, this beautiful and practical item is sure to delight you. Its manufacture complies with Japan's very strict food safety controls, so you can use it with complete confidence (see the Public Health Certificate). It is certainly one of the best teapots on the market.
Nature-inspired decoration
The upper part of the teapot is decorated with the classic Japanese Arare pattern. Delicate and elegant, it evokes hail, called Arare in Japanese, which sometimes accompanies the transition from winter to spring during the March showers. The shape of the teapot is inspired by the lines of the traditional Nanbugata kettle.
Each Iwachu teapot is made using an artisanal process involving more than 60 steps, including:
- The inner and outer molds are made by hand.
- Molten cast iron is poured into the mold.
- Once it has cooled, the mold is broken to remove the teapot.
- All edges are filed smooth.
- The inside is enamel-coated.
- The outside surface is painted.
- Once the paint has dried, the teapot is carefully packaged.
Iwachu has been making cast-iron items for more than 100 years. When you buy your teapot, make sure it has the Made in Japan logo on the bottom; this is your guarantee of quality.
