Black bronze bell used in Zen temples.
Keizu or daitokuji is the name given to this traditional bell of Buddhist temples, where it accompanies the recitation of sutras and other ceremonies. A mallet blow is given on the side, consciously, to obtain a clear and deep sound. Generally large in size, the penetrating sound of the keizu bell fills the meditation rooms inviting serenity of mind and harmony between the members of the group. Bowl made in Taiwan, mallet and cushion made in Japan.
“When I listen to the sound of the bell, I feel my afflictions begin to dissolve, my mind calms, my body relaxes. A smile forms on my lips. Following the sound of the bell, my breathing brings me back to the safe island of mindfulness.” Thich Nhat Hanh
