How to Clean an Above Ground Pool After Winter

Taking some good weather after a busy day at work is often recommended. And the success of this fact can only come in a bath or refreshing the body. Hence the need to take a walk in your swimming pool. Indeed, the swimming pool is the place par excellence where you can really refresh your body and bring the temperature back to 37°C. But if the latter is dirty, suddenly everything becomes difficult. You will have to immediately find the necessary and recommended solutions as part of a perfect cleaning of your above ground pool, especially after winter.

Put everything back in place

The very first thing to do to restart the pool is to first remove the winter cover without forgetting that all the elements that have been placed in the water during the winter like the floats wintering, gizmos or plugs. In the same vein, consider replacing all the equipment that had been stored for the winter, namely: the skimmer baskets, the return nozzles and even the filter, which must be thoroughly cleaned.

Remove debris with a scoop

You have to look for a tarp with which you will find some debris, leaves and even a lot of insects on the surface of the water. So, it is possible to simply remove all this debris using your landing net. Sometimes you have to take advantage by also cleaning the surroundings of your above ground pool. Just a broom on the beach and at the level of the copings and you're done.

Check the pool and equipment

If your swimming pool has cracks on the walls, in the bottom of the basin or on the surroundings, it is time to take care of the repairs. A renovation will not be a bad idea. You should never hesitate to do a thorough examination of your beautiful above ground pool.

Check the technical room after winter

Checking the technical room after winter is really difficult to deal with. But, you will always have to find a way to finally clean your above ground pool. Start by getting the pump and filter back to working order. Sometimes the pump is seized up, it is up to you to unseize it. Thereafter, it is necessary to think of opening all the valves and even to take care of the electronic box of the pump. This is explained by switching on and programming a new filtration time and respecting the recommended filtration time. It is requested that when the filtration system is put back into operation, always check the filter pressure gauge. And to do so, you have three options, namely:

It must be balanced, so everything is fine.

If the pressure is too low, this may be caused by the pump which is seized up and you will have to try to unseize it again using a screwdriver; or it is clogged, in which case it is essential to clean it.

On the other hand, if the pressure is high, the valves may not be open. A verification is necessary for this purpose. The problem can also come from the filter. The best solution is simply to clean it.

Carry out a thorough cleaning of the basin

In the majority of cases, the pool owner often forgets to do this. And even when he does, he does not clean his pool with all the appropriate means. You can use a robot vacuum cleaner to clean the bottom without forgetting the walls of the basin. Therefore, it is always recommended to discharge the water towards the sewers and not towards the filter.

Adjust the correct water level

To successfully clean the water line, the water level must be lowered by a few centimeters. Then fill the pool to the level of the skimmers.

Do a good analysis and water treatment if necessary

When the cleaning has already been carried out, you can proceed to the water analysis. It is necessary to control the pH level, the stabilizer level if your pool is of the chlorine type, the TAC (alkalinity), the TH (known as hydrotimetric title). In particular, you must make an adjustment if you find that the results are not good.

Do a shock treatment

If you didn't do this before winter, it doesn't matter. You can shock treat your above ground pool after winter. This thanks to chlorine, bromine or active oxygen. All these products must be in cash. Make sure that you respect the recommended and usual treatment in your swimming pool. In addition, during treatment, you must place the product in front of the discharge nozzles, in the skimmers, in the dosing pump tanks and even adjust the salt level. Regarding treatments with salt, it should be noted that the system does not work if the water is below 15°C.

Clean the sand filter

It may happen that you have forgotten to clean this filter during the winter. You can do it now without fear. And to do so, you must:

Use a special product, which can strip the sand filter. You can backwash the filter along with rinsing. This is a step that can be done 24 hours after start-up. In fact, it is also a question of seeing if the water is very dirty. Thereafter, it is essential to return the multiway valve to the filtration position. Finally, it is necessary to monitor the pressure gauge the first few days.

Also restart the filtration system

It is important to always be attentive to your pump when putting it back into operation. As soon as it makes an abnormal noise which moreover persists after an hour of use, be aware that the bearings are seized.  They must necessarily be replaced so that they cannot cause more damage.

After winter, you should always do a technical cleaning of your above-ground swimming pool in order to be reassured that you can take your baths without fear.
