Should we cut off the UV when we put bacteria in a pond?

A UV kills bacteria that are free in the water. After a few hours, when your filtration system will be seeded with bacteria, you can turn your UV system back on. A pond UV system kills bacteria suspended in the water, but not fixed bacteria, those that are in the filter or under a cover or lagoon.

In fact, we recommend cutting off the UV for 48 hours to give bacteria time to cling to your biofilm, your filter materials and the bacteria-friendly areas present in the pool.

What bacteria should be used in a pond? Discover here our bacteria for small and large bodies of water. You just need to select according to your volume.

Beware of rumours, conventional plastic type UV does not kill pathogenic bacteria. It is necessary to start with a SYNERGY or NIROX UV type specifically germicidal which generally cost at least 600€.
