It is not recommended to add salt to the pond water. We will explain the reasons to you. Salt has more disadvantages than advantages if you place it directly in your pond. It is mainly used for sick fish placed in a separate quarantine tank to restore normal osmoregulation.
Most fish live in water richer in salt than their body fluids. As salt attracts water, they constantly lose water through their skin and gills. Saltwater fish must therefore drink continuously and excrete as little urine as possible. They actively remove excess salt through their gills.
