Pamper your tortoise by giving it healthy food
Tortoises are foodies and won't eat just anything, but they do like some things that they shouldn't. For example, tomatoes, bananas, citrus fruits and meat are off limits.
The composition of JBL PROTERRA HERBIL and its enrichment with tasty herbs were developed in collaboration with Petra Kölle, a veterinarian at the University of Munich. The palatability tests showed that the turtles clearly differentiated between several foods offered and sometimes showed a personal preference for certain foods from the JBL PROTERRA range. After all, even if a food has a perfect composition from a nutritional physiological point of view, it must above all be accepted by the animal! Which is a real success with the JBL PROTERRA HERBIL.
With the JBL PROTERRA HERBIL, your turtles get an ideal complete food. Of course, you can also collect greenery and herbaceous plants in summer to supplement the basic diet. The other JBL PROTERRA food varieties: VEGABIL, FRUCTIL and FLORSIL are an ideal and species-appropriate supplement to the JBL PROTERRA HERBIL. Variety is welcome for all turtles.
Turtle species for which this food is ideal (examples):
- red-footed tortoise
– Indian star tortoise
- leopard tortoise
- bordered turtle
- Hermann's tortoise
- Moorish tortoise
- spurred tortoise
- Horsfield's tortoise.
JBL expeditions often provide an opportunity to visit tortoise habitats, whether in deserts or, more often, in tropical wetlands. Observations of their lifestyles and feeding habits are incorporated into the development of JBL foods. This information, taken directly from nature, is extremely valuable, as it is hardly available otherwise.
The aim should always be to maintain animals in a way that meets the needs of their species and ideally to ensure their offspring in order to reduce the amount of harvesting from the wild. The reproduction of some species is certainly not absolutely necessary, because the species sold in the trade are bred or their population is not endangered, but JBL considers it desirable to ensure the reproduction of pets.
