Most of these turtles are omnivorous. However, they particularly prefer to eat fish and other aquatic animals, and often even aquatic plants. JBL offers a wide range of products for a diet tailored to the needs of each turtle size. Dried fish, molluscs, aquatic insects and crustaceans dominate and correspond to a natural, species-appropriate diet. Young turtles basically eat the same as adults, but are more carnivorous. The older they get, the more turtles switch to a larger proportion of plants. When it comes to food insects, small turtles always choose smaller portions because, despite their powerful jaws, they cannot bite well. This is precisely why the JBL PROTERRA BABY was designed.
