REPLACEMENT VALVE FOR TORANDO II
An improved version of the popular Tornado protein skimmer. Via a 4 mm air connection and a supplied flow meter, a pneumatic pump continuously delivers 30 liters of air per hour into the filter.
This pressure causes the foam to be forced out of the filter via the foam release tube. The great advantage of this system is the absence of pressure loss at the intake following the removal of a venturi and the discharge into the filter of the correct quantity of air. The protein skimmer combines three different filtration systems.
The filter has a biological, mechanical and chemical action.
Principle of operation: in water, the surface of an air bubble attracts dissolved substances. The attractive force of air bubbles concentrates chemicals, dirt particles, dyes and algae. A pneumatic pump mixes air and water. By forcing this mixture through the filtration material (bio rings) towards an evacuation located lower down, the duration of the contact between water and air is very long. Due to this, the surface tension of the water changes continuously and a robust foam is formed. This foam is separated from the purified water by a perforated cone and evacuated. The foam traps and evacuates all kinds of dirt. Substances dissolved in the water such as phosphates, ammonia, humus acids, dyes, proteins and certain heavy metals are filtered out and removed through the foam.
In a conventional filter, the extraction of dissolved substances is impossible and can only be achieved by adding chemicals.
