Green moss on my pond, what should I do? This problem occurs more often in natural ponds. It is a phenomenon due to CO2 which raises patches of mud at the bottom of the pond. This often happens during very hot or stormy weather.
This green scum often looks like foam and has patches. Despite what you might think, it's not pollution. A distinction must be made between moss (mud patch) and/or duckweed.
Eutrophication is an imbalance of the environment resulting from an excessive supply of nutrients: nitrogen, organic matter and phosphorus. The rising of green patches is often a synonym for the accumulation of organic matter in the pond.
