How do you clean sludge from a swimming pool?
How to clean sludge from a swimming pool?
If you know how to DIY a pool vacuum, your outdoor pool will always be clean. It will truly provide the joy of taking water cures. A private pool built in the countryside or in the yard of a private home brings a lot of pleasure.
At the same time, you must understand that such a structure requires regular cleaning. If you do not clean it, you will very quickly see the appearance of sediment deposits and the formation of sludge; the chic pool will turn into a large puddle, in which frogs and other animals will begin to proliferate.
It is clear that no one will use such an unattractive reservoir. The specific interval between cleanings is chosen by taking into account the location of the pool (in a pavilion, out on the street), its geometric parameters (length, width, capacity), and the frequency of its use.
Pool cleaning
It is recommended to clean outdoor structures every 3-4 days. This frequency is due to the fact that they are constantly receiving debris and leaves. Even in the case where you have equipped your pool with a high-quality filtration system, it must be cleaned on schedule, because no filter can prevent the accumulation of sludge in the tank.
The water with which the pool is filled is generally not at all difficult to purify; there is a special system for this task. But cleaning the bottom of the pool and its walls of sediment requires a lot of effort. Previously, a similar operation was performed as follows: the water was drained from the pool and the sediment was removed manually. This procedure required a lot of time and effort. And the cost of the water that must be constantly drained and poured is not at all negligible.
Drainage pumps make it possible to solve these problems. They mainly facilitate the cleaning of the pool from sludge. Especially if you have installed an automatic or semi-automatic pump. Similar equipment from renowned manufacturers independently cleans aquatic structures using special brushes. A perfect option. But, unfortunately, submersible devices are not within everyone's reach. Or, some do not wish to equip their private pool with such a pump.
After starting, the handheld vacuum begins to clean the accumulated sediment and sludge and all remaining contaminants on the sides and the bottom. The dirt is sucked out of the device and retained in the filter. The technique is simple and direct. Its only drawback is that you have to change the vacuum filters quite often. Manual cleaners are ideal for plastic pools, inflatable pools, and all other small-capacity pools. And most importantly, you can make a vacuum for a summer cottage pool yourself, having spent only a few cents for such an operation.
How to clean sludge from the bottom of the pool without a vacuum?
There are two ways to clean the bottom of your pool:
In the first case, you must drain all the water and clean manually, using brushes to loosen the deposited sludge and clean the surface of the slab. Naturally, this method takes a lot of time, and is messy as well.
The second consists of building a cleaner yourself. To do this, you must first prepare by going to a plumbing store and buying several products, including:
- Polypropylene pipe;
- Corrugated hose;
- Rubber seal;
- A brush or other device with which mechanical cleaning will be performed.
As for the diameter of the materials, you must start from the diameter of the filtration hose. Do not buy a corrugated hose that is too long; take 0.5 m less than the length of the pool.
First, disconnect the skimmer from the filter and replace it with a corrugated hose. Use a seal to avoid water leaks. Connect the other end of the hose to the polypropylene pipe, also using a sealing gasket. Then, put on the suction nozzle. If you use a plunger, be sure to make a few notches in the neck so that it can slide on the surface and not get stuck to it. However, the best option remains the brush. Today, stores offer a wide range of products of this type, so you can choose the option that suits you.
Use the pumped water to irrigate your garden or vegetable patch. This will help you save water resources properly. In addition, the sludge contained in the discharged water can be used as compost. The only drawback of this type of cleaning is the reduction of the water level. Thus, at the end of the procedure, you will have to fill it up completely again.
Methods for cleaning a pool of sludge / Cleaning methods are divided into two categories: physical and chemical.
The physical method
Physical cleaning refers to treatment with a vacuum, net, brush, or filter. All coarse particles and suspended matter are removed using these devices.
Filters are the most powerful tools. Working autonomously, they eliminate most visible and invisible particles, including sand, sludge, and diatomaceous algae.
The chemical method
This method is mainly used as a preventative measure against sludge and the appearance of algae and other organisms.
Chlorination is an affordable, proven, and effective way. Water treated with a chlorine product specific to pools remains disinfected for a long time. This economical method also has drawbacks. The main one is the risk of developing lung and allergic diseases.
Ozonation is the most ecological method. Ozone is a powerful oxidant that disinfects water very effectively. Once released into the environment, it mixes with the air to form natural chemical compounds. At the same time, all beneficial trace elements remain in the water.
Ultraviolet irradiation strongly reduces harmful microorganisms present in the water that passes through the device. The organoleptic properties are not affected. But this treatment does not destroy harmful elements present in highly contaminated water and is only effective with daily exposure.
