Les profondeurs de plantation pour votre bassin, et le principe du panier flottant.

The planting depths for your pond, and the principle of the floating basket.

Get ready already because the month of May and June is the best month to make new plantations in your ponds.

The notion of planting depth.

Lots of people make mistakes, lots of people have plants that die, not because the plant is not of good quality, but often because people put the plants too deep in the ponds.

Let's take a typical example: the Blétry Astra tenanta, it is a plant that must be planted between +5 and +20.

What does that mean? +5 +20? If the hand is at water level +5, it is the collar of the plant 5 cm above water level, up to 20 cm above water level and not 5 - 20 cm underwater.

So when you see a + on a label, it means that the plant must be planted above the water level, and that the collar of the plant must be higher than the surface of the pond.

So another plant that can be put deeper in the basin, the Sagittarius stem folia, can be put from 5 to minus 30. So if my hand has the water level again minus 5, it's this minus 30, it's more or less this.

When we say minus (-), it means that the collar of the plant can be under water.

If I take the Tounian, which is a new plant above water level, so between 0 and +10. So, zero is just at water level plus 10 and 10 cm above water level.

For example pontéris, which is a plant that can go deeper into the pelvis. Between -10 and -60 new. If my hand has the water level, - 10 cm, it is the collar of the plant 10 cm under water. At -60, it's the collar of the plant, 60 cm under water.

You have to respect the planting depths, it's very important.

Shallow areas and the role of floating baskets.

Many people unfortunately, when creating their pond, forget the shallow areas, which means areas where there is 15/20 cm of water to be able to plant marsh plants.

However, there are floating baskets commercially available . These are baskets that are made with a lathe in frigolite and with a fabric inside.

These baskets allow you to plant a plant like the Blétry Astra tenanta which will stand 4/5 cm above the water level and to be able to simply place its baskets on the water. This will allow you to have floating islands.

Either you can attach them to fix them in a well-defined place, or you can attach these baskets to each other so as to create large floating marsh areas fixed in one place or which will move with the wind.

Commercially, there are four sizes of floating islands. You have in small sizes a small circle and a small square and you have in larger size large squares and large circles.

You also have the option of buying ready-made baskets.

In conclusion,

For example, the basket that you buy as is in the trade, you just have to buy the floating basket, and you put it in, and make it float on the water. Same process with the square basket.

You take the filled baskets that you have purchased, you put them in the baskets in the appropriate floating islands. And then, all you have to do is place the floating islands on the water and you're done. You have two new floating baskets that will decorate your pond.

You are ready for new aquatic plantings now!
