Description du produit :

  • CAVE / NEST OF STARLINGS 3S 45MM - SCHWEGLER

SCHWEGLER starling nest box

  • Occupants : Starling, nuthatch, great spotted woodpecker, pied flycatcher.
  • Hole for flight : Ø 45 mm.
  • Dimensions : H 28 x W 19 x D 20 cm
  • Incubation chamber : 14 cm

For decades, this nest box has become almost a "standard" in Germany and other countries. It has many advantages, such as a spacious incubation chamber with a diameter of 14 cm and a large flight hole that allows excellent light penetration. As a result, it is frequently occupied, not only by starlings, but also by various other bird species.

Despite some reservations, starlings are undoubtedly remarkable birds, playing a vital role. Although they can sometimes be a problem in some monocultures, they contribute significantly to "pest control", ensuring that agriculture and forestry remain free of mosquitoes, processionary caterpillars and various butterflies.

Sometimes other species such as the great spotted woodpecker and the middle spotted woodpecker use them as a nighttime refuge. In addition, when the density of starlings is low, it is not uncommon for other species, such as the pied flycatcher or the nuthatch, to occupy these nest boxes.

From an ornithological point of view, adding a perch under the flight hole is not necessary in any case, because birds tend to happily perch on the roof of the nest box.
