Corten steel, also called weather resistant steel, is a metal alloy made of iron, to which copper, silicon, nickel and chromium have been added. Corten steel is a type of strong steel that has the property of being covered with a protective layer of rust when exposed to the outside air. This layer of natural solid rust is the protection against further corrosion. Corten steel is characterized by its orange-brown rust color and longevity.
