Comment détecter un trou dans un bassin?

How to detect a hole in a basin?

The water in your pond can evaporate in very sunny weather. In these times, your water loss may even reach 2 cm per day. At this level, the problem does not arise.

But when you do not start to notice a significant and abnormal drop in the quantity of water, there must be a leak somewhere in your pool.

It could be a plumbing problem, but most of the time it's a hole in your water supply that is the cause. However, it is still not easy to locate the leak in your pool. Since it is a question of solving the problem related to the sealing of your device, here are some tips to help you locate the hole, and plug it.

Where can the holes in your pond come from?

There are several reasons for the appearance of a hole in your pond. First of all, if your pool is old, it is possible that it is no longer in good condition, especially if it was not designed with appropriate equipment. If his tarp is not made with the best materials, it may not stand the test of time. In this case, regardless of the type of pool, it becomes defective at some point, and remains quite sensitive, especially in sunny weather, which is likely to promote the appearance of leaks. But this wear problem particularly concerns pools with PVC covers. They do not have a long lifespan and are therefore more exposed.

The leak in your pond may be the presence of a hole in your cover caused by sharp objects which at some point must have fallen into the water. It can be a pickaxe, a pitchfork, etc. The leak can also be caused by rubbing against a tree branch. Still talking about sharp objects, we can also refer to aggressive plants whose roots or sharp rhizomes can really damage your equipment.

Even some fish cause holes in the tarp. This is the case, for example, of the diamond sturgeon, which has a body with enough bony plates.

And the more it grows, the more these plates also develop and become quite sharp. By making movements in the water, they tend to rub against the walls, the bottom and along, which can quickly damage the equipment. When the pool cover is not made of concrete, it is more susceptible to this kind of fairly frequent damage.

The various problems relating to the presence of a hole in your pool
When you have a leak in your pond, it becomes a series of problems. The first and most obvious thing is that the water is rapidly decreasing in your aquatic environment. And at some point affects the flora and fauna of the device. Especially in a period of high temperatures, the heat wave can quickly impact your plants and your animals if they do not benefit from an appropriate quantity of water.

Even if some plants are able to develop resistances for their survival, in case of water shortage, fish resist less. They will therefore weaken after a while, and you can expect the worst if no solution is found to detect the leak and fix the problem. And even the plants with all their robustness will also end up being affected, and your pond will have definitely been destroyed.

How to spot a hole in your pond?

The detection of hole present in the basin is certainly difficult, but not impossible to do. To get out of it, you must first stop your pump temporarily. Then you need to let the water evaporate to the level where you no longer notice a drop, and mark that area with a dot. Refill your pond 10 cm of water above this area, and make sure the water stops at this same level to confirm that the leak is at this precise point. Pump the water, but this time make sure it is 10 cm below the marking point.

This step allows you to locate the area of the leak, and when it is done, you still have to look for the exact precision within this radius of 10 cm. To detect the hole, check the area of the tarp where the color is darker and the humidity is more accentuated. This color is generally black, and will be especially visible on an EPDM tarpaulin whose dry areas are grayish in color. The dark dot is the area of the leak. Now that you have detected it, it remains to find solutions to fix it.

How to fill a hole in a pond?

The more difficult past, you will have much easier to repair your hole. It doesn't matter if your pond cover is concrete, PVC, or EPDM, there are repair techniques for each of them.

• Repair a concrete cover: choose a time of day, and empty the pool completely. Then, proceed to an intense cleaning with the help of a brush before moving on to the repair. Once your pool is clean, use a chisel and a mallet and make a V with the hole. After this step, use clear water to clean the enlarged hole to remove any dust.

In a trough, mix 1/3 sandblasting sand 0 with 2/3 cement. Mix until you get a thick and not runny batter. Use it and plug the hole completely, then smooth it out. To finish, cover it with a mesh, lay out another layer of your mixture and smooth. Wait for this area to dry completely before reapplying water.

• Repair a PVC cover: empty the pool, clean your cover without using soap or other detergent products that may affect the balance of your pool's ecosystem and use a cover patch as you go. stick to the hole with a glue suitable for PVC.

• Seal an EPDM tarpaulin: the EPDM tarpaulin must also be cleaned before you repair the leak. Made of rubber membrane, the EPDM tarpaulin requires a repair procedure by vulcanization. Choose a repair kit suitable for the hole, and be sure to degrease the area. Apply the patch and lay out the EPDM kit.

The presence of a hole in a basin is sometimes unavoidable. The main thing is to quickly make the remark, detect it, in order to remedy the situation as soon as possible.

Merci
