How to make a polyester pond?

The ponds located in the garden give the decor of a country house a neat look. Although the body of water is small in size, it wisely integrates into the design of the place, surrounded by greenery and flowers, on a hot day, the wind blowing from the coolness of this water can cool the flowers.

If you install ornamental fish, then watching them will bring you a lot of pleasure. On the site you can make a large pool of water in which you can keep fish and decorative rocks, which diversifies your garden table when you receive guests.

Any pond, whatever the purpose for which it was created, is an artificial aquatic installation. We must therefore start by creating a reliable drainage system and an effective waterproofing system.

The construction of the basins can be different and have a basin made of concrete or covered with a coating, for example, but in order to create a structure that will serve reliably for many years, you cannot do without a waterproofing system reliable as polyester.

What should I know before making my pond?

For high-quality construction of a pond, it is necessary to protect the bottom of the pond from possible damage to the insulation layer. Indeed, in the event of a breach in a pond, the water gradually penetrates the ground, which leads not only to the devastation of the land, but also the possibility of flooding the land of neighboring buildings, which threatens the integrity of their foundations.

To avoid such cases, it is necessary to use during construction an effective cementing with a mesh to then come to apply polyester for the ponds.

What exactly is polyester?

It is a waterproof synthetic material, whose characteristics can be enhanced for use in tillage. Polypropylene, polyester and polyamide fibers are used for its production.

Over the years, it has developed into several new types of geotextiles for artificial ponds, which differ in their performance, making them suitable for different uses.

When using geotextiles in the construction of an artificial pond, you provide reliable protection of the waterproofing against the risk of damage. Thanks to its properties, the geotextile allows the "enhancement" of the water in the basin. The material is insensitive to load and climatic conditions, it does not degrade or spread fungus and mold. It is suitable for the hand and does not require the use of technology.

To know in which direction the geotextile will be laid, it is necessary to take into account the type of soil in which it is located in relation to an artificial pond. It can be placed under the waterproofing, above it or on both sides at the same time. The choice of the coating mode by versatility is the most reliable to protect the waterproofing against damage, in the event of unforeseen circumstances.

Advantages and characteristics of polyester waterproofing

The use of polyester sealing significantly reduces maintenance costs. Ponds built on a base such as peat, clay or other high moisture soils may not withstand a cold season if not reinforced first. Thanks to the use of polyester geotextile, water does not mix with the fragile foundations of nearby structures and reliably prevents land from slipping or deforming.

Polyester waterproofing has many positive qualities:

  • Universal use;
  • Mildew resistant;
  • Very robust;
  • Resistant to chemical reagents, acids and bases;
  • Has a long lifespan and increases the lifespan of lands in the area;
  • Inhibits weed growth;
  • Prevents the development of soil erosion;
  • Has filtration properties;
  • Accelerates the flow of water;
  • Has high tear resistance (can stretch up to 45%)
  • Has great elasticity;
  • Allows you to reinforce the structures of buildings;
  • Does not degrade and is one of the environmentally friendly materials);
  • The cost is relatively low;
  • Easy to use and shape.

Construction of a pond using polyester

The first stage of construction will be to carry out research to determine the location of the depth of groundwater. If they are more than two meters, then there must be drainage around the pond, otherwise, instead of a pond or pool, there will be a swamp that could form.

You can then go directly to the pool plan. When digging the pit, all stones and roots of all plants should be thoroughly cleaned. The slopes of the future dam should be slight, they should not be more than 45 degrees. The bottom of the trench is filled with sand about 10 cm thick. Note that the sand must be thrown and scattered carefully and ensure that it is well packed with water.

After the installation of the soil straightening device, the polyester geotextile is laid. It comes in the form of rolls, which is very convenient to work with it. It is easily cut into pieces of the desired size. Lay your covering, starting at about 15 cm, then lay the waterproof polyester geotextile, as you can use a rubber roller for soil waterproofing (Geo membranes).

It's time to fill the pond with water. When filling the basin, it is advisable to insulate the walls and the bottom of the tank and to smooth out the folds formed by the pressure of the water, so that they go unnoticed. It should be noted that the membrane must exceed the edge of the pool by at least 60 cm. The protective layer must be folded and then covered with earth.

It remains only to decorate the edge of the pond with lots of greenery, decorative stones, and install what you like there.
