Maintaining a pond air pump: filter, diaphragms and diffusers

Reliable aeration also depends on maintenance. A pump's air filter, membranes, lines, and diffusers must remain within the specified conditions. Organizing inspections before the hot season prevents discovering everything during an oxygen shortage.
Keep the information from installation onward
Note the brand, model, serial number, and commissioning date. Add the line layout and diffuser reference. A photo of the label makes it easier to order parts several years later.
Keep the values or observations from the initial operation: pressure if measured, bubble distribution, usual noise, and operating times. These reference points help identify changes without confusing them with normal behavior.
Check the air entering the pump
A clogged filter and a poorly ventilated shelter can impair the device. Examine these elements according to the manual, with the necessary power switched off. Do not add oil or lubricant to a pump that does not require it.
The schedule depends on the installation conditions. Dust, heat, and vegetation near the air intake may justify closer monitoring. A manufacturer's maintenance recommendations should not become the sole rule for all pumps.
The lines and diffusers are part of maintenance
| Component | Inspection |
|---|---|
| Hose | Crushing, aging, leakage, and retention. |
| Fittings | Sealing and compatibility. |
| Manifold | Distribution and condition of the settings. |
| Diffuser | Clogging, membrane, and recovery method. |
An increase in pressure may prompt you to look for additional resistance in the system. Compare it with known values and check the manual before changing the configuration.
Membranes: choose the right part
Wear parts should be ordered using the exact reference. A similar designation is not enough to guarantee that a kit will fit. Check the list of covered models and the replacement instructions. If the procedure goes beyond the interventions intended for the user, request technical assistance.
After repair, check that the whole system returns to consistent operation. Replacing a membrane does not eliminate a diffuser restriction or insufficient ventilation.
Also prepare the floating equipment
For a surface aerator, follow the planned operations for the basket, attachments and accessible parts. Air pump maintenance does not describe that of a foam generator. Also check the storage and frost protection instructions for your version.
Before a critical period, test the equipment's recovery, access to the power supply and the contact procedure in case of failure. Planned maintenance supports both the continuity of the installation and its service life.
References to consider for your project
These references are intended for different uses. Check the specifications, variants and current instructions before choosing.
Secoh SLL/JDK membrane and valve kit

Replacement parts should only be ordered after verifying the exact reference. This kit is not automatically suitable for all Secoh models.
HiBlow HP80 air pump

Air pump to be integrated into a properly sized diffusion system. The pump alone does not constitute a complete setup with pipes and diffusers.
Frequently asked questions
How often should the filter be cleaned?
Use the schedule in the instructions, then adapt monitoring to the conditions in the room.
Are all membranes from one brand interchangeable?
No. The reference and version must match the kit's compatibility list.
