Nautex, SeDox Max and Bactovase: create a program for your pond

A maintenance program does not involve pouring in three products and hoping to solve every problem. Nautex, SeDox Max, and Bactovase have different functions. Their usefulness depends on the analyses, the nature of the deposits, and the environmental conditions.
Define a measurable objective
“Improve my pond” is too vague to choose a program. Specify your priority: reduce an organic accumulation, stabilize certain mineral conditions, limit available nutrients, or correct an oxygen deficit. Several problems may coexist, but they require different indicators.
Before intervention, record the pH, alkalinity or KH, temperature, oxygen, and relevant nutrient parameters. Photograph the same points and measure deposits at marked locations. Reproducible observation provides a better basis for comparison than a general impression.
Assign each product its function
| Product | Role to consider | Limitation to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Nautex | Addition of coccolithic chalk and support for mineralization depending on the context. | Does not replace oxygen and is not a herbicide. |
| SeDox Max | Phosphate binding in accordance with the OASE instructions. | Does not eliminate new inputs from the watershed. |
| Bactovase | Supports the breakdown of organic matter. | Does not digest sand, clay, or stones. |
The nature of the sludge is decisive. An accumulation that is primarily mineral requires consideration of erosion and, if necessary, sediment removal. A biological solution should not be sold as a systematic replacement for dredging.
Prepare the environmental conditions
Reduce leaf inputs and avoidable additions. Check the aeration: its condition, coverage, and the measurements obtained. Biological activity consumes oxygen; adding bacteria without examining how the pond operates may leave the limiting factor unchanged.
If the body of water is deep and old, do not start intense bottom mixing without assessing stratification. Starting aeration must also be part of the plan.
Build an appropriate schedule, not a fixed recipe
Have the quantities, order, and intervals checked against the current instructions and site data. There is no universal interval here between Nautex, SeDox Max, and Bactovase. Temperature, water level, test results, and previous interventions may change the schedule.
Record every application: exact product, batch, quantity, date, weather, and observations. Do not add a new dose merely because the water has not become clear within a few days. Reconsider the objective and check the relevant parameter.
Evaluate the program with a pond log
Track deposits, oxygen, and nutrients separately. Photos show the surface appearance but do not, on their own, prove a reduction in sludge. Measure at the same points and record events that may affect the result, particularly rainfall and changes in water level.
Send this information along with the dimensions and analyses to prepare a coherent basket. The best program may begin with an additional measurement or an aeration adjustment before purchasing all three products.
Products to consider for your project
These products serve different purposes. Consult the current specifications, variants, and instructions before choosing.
Nautex – coccolithic chalk

Coccolithic chalk to consider according to the mineral conditions of the environment. Analyses help determine its place in the program.
OASE SeDox Max

Phosphate treatment to consider based on the analyses and the current instructions. Have the quantity and application conditions validated.
Aquipond Bactovase

Biological solution for the organic fraction of deposits. Its use does not replace evaluating the oxygen level and the nature of the sediments.
Frequently asked questions
Can I apply all three products on the same day?
Do not assume this practical compatibility: have the order and intervals confirmed according to the instructions and your site.
Can Bactovase make all the sludge disappear?
The organic fraction may be involved. Mineral sediments are not digested by bacteria.
