Phosphates in the pond: using SeDox Max and aeration wisely

An analysis reveals phosphates, algae return, and you are considering SeDox Max. Before ordering, three issues must be distinguished: nutrient inputs, available phosphorus, and oxygen. A coherent program addresses these levers without assigning them the same role.
Read the result before choosing the product
Keep the laboratory's complete report: date, location, depth, method, and unit. A value expressed as phosphorus P cannot be compared directly with a value expressed as phosphate PO4. Likewise, total phosphorus and orthophosphates do not describe exactly the same fraction. Presenting only a number without its label can lead to a poor decision.
Complete the assessment with pH, temperature, and oxygen. A one-time analysis provides information about a given moment; it is not enough to explain all seasonal variations.
Identify what is fueling the problem
Identify water inflows, runoff, feeding, leaves, and deposits. If inputs continue, an intervention on available phosphates may be followed by a new increase. Also note what has changed recently: construction work, a drop in water level, an increase in fish, or more feeding.
Watershed management and removal of accessible plant matter complement the treatment. Temporarily clearer water is not sufficient proof of a lasting reduction in nutrients.
What SeDox Max and aeration provide
| Lever | Objective | Point to check |
|---|---|---|
| SeDox Max | Bind phosphates according to the mechanism and conditions specified by OASE. | Analysis, volume, and product label. |
| Aeration | Support oxygenation and circulation suited to the site. | Depths, distribution, and measurements. |
| Input management | Limit the inflow of new nutrients. | Runoff, leaves, and feeding. |
The aerator does not remove phosphorus from the body of water on its own. SeDox Max does not replace an aeration system when an oxygen deficiency is detected. This distinction prevents expecting a result from the wrong tool that it cannot provide.
Prepare the quantity and application
Estimate the volume based on the surface area and several depth measurements. A 1,000 m² pond does not necessarily contain 1,000 m³ of water. Have the quantity and application method validated against the current label and test results. Follow its conditions of use; do not arbitrarily multiply the doses.
Avoid starting several interventions simultaneously without recording their dates. If fish are in distress, quickly checking the oxygen level takes priority over a nutrient treatment program.
Monitor more than just the color
Prepare a table with the results before intervention, the quantities applied, observations and subsequent checks. Compare measurements taken under conditions that are as similar as possible. An increase after rainfall may reveal an external input; a change after mixing requires a different interpretation.
To study your project, send the complete analysis, surface area, depths and photos of the water inflows. This will allow you to discuss treatment and aeration based on an identified problem.
References to consider for your project
These references serve different purposes. Consult the current specifications, variants and instructions before choosing.
OASE SeDox Max

Phosphate treatment to consider based on the analyses and current instructions. Have the quantity and application conditions validated.
Aquitechnics Pond Emulsifier for ponds

To be considered for a surface aeration project. The choice of version and placement must take the depths and site constraints into account.
Frequently asked questions
Does SeDox Max directly destroy all algae?
It acts on phosphates according to its instructions. Do not treat it as a universal treatment that destroys all algae.
Do you need to buy an aerator with SeDox Max?
It depends on the oxygen diagnosis and how the water body functions. The two approaches address distinct needs.
