Is your pond lacking oxygen, are your fish gasping at the surface, does the water smell bad, or do heatwaves make your water body unstable? The Aquitechnics floating aerator is a surface oxygenating emulsifier designed to quickly provide massive oxygenation to large volumes: natural ponds, lakes, swimming areas, koi basins, and large water bodies.

⚠️ During heatwaves, a large pond can lose several mg/L of dissolved oxygen in a single night. Installing a surface oxygenator is one of the best protections against summer fish kills.

Thanks to its large mushroom-shaped fountain, it projects water upwards, greatly increases contact between water and air, expels harmful gases, and sets the entire water body in motion. It is one of the most effective solutions to sustainably oxygenate a large surface pond while providing a genuine decorative effect.

Why is oxygen vital for your pond?

Dissolved oxygen conditions all life in a water body: fish respiration, activity of purifying bacteria, degradation of organic matter, and overall biological balance. When it drops — especially during heatwaves, at night, or in ponds rich in sediment — fish become stressed, bad odors appear, and anaerobic fermentations settle at the bottom.

These oxygen-poor zones can promote the accumulation of unwanted gases like hydrogen sulfide, methane, or CO₂. By strongly mixing the surface, the Aquitechnics aerator acts on two essential levers: it delivers large amounts of oxygen and promotes degassing of the water body.

The desired result: healthier water, better-protected fish during critical periods, and a more stable ecosystem.

Why choose a surface oxygenating emulsifier?

  • Massive and immediate oxygenation — ideal during heatwaves, storms, heat peaks, or heavy fish loads.
  • Protection of fish — particularly useful for large ponds, koi basins, and heavily populated water bodies.
  • Expulsion of harmful gases thanks to intense mixing and water breaking at the surface.
  • Even circulation throughout the water body: the generated waves limit stagnant and oxygen-depleted zones.
  • Less favorable conditions for algae: by breaking the stagnant surface film and improving the aerobic degradation of organic matter.
  • Integrated decorative fountain: a powerful water feature that enhances ornamental ponds, parks, private lakes, and natural swimming areas.

In which cases should you install this surface oxygenator?

  • Your pond exceeds several hundred m².
  • Your fish regularly come to the surface for air.
  • Your water heats up significantly in summer.
  • Your water body contains a lot of silt, leaves, or organic matter.
  • You want to protect your fish during heat waves.
  • You are looking for a visible, effective, and decorative solution.
  • You want to improve oxygenation without installing only bottom aeration.

How does the Aquitechnics aerator work?

A high-performance axial propeller moves the water and projects it to the surface. The jet trajectory angle and its impact on the water are studied to maximize gas exchange with the atmosphere and propagate waves outward.

The device continuously draws oxygen-poor water from the lower layers, brings it up, and enriches it by contact with air. The expulsion angle is designed to avoid flow short-circuiting: already oxygenated water is not immediately re-sucked. Oxygenation thus remains more uniform, from the center of the device to the banks.

Two versions depending on your use

Surface motor

The motor is housed in a polyethylene casing on the float, above the water. This version generates a taller and narrower fountain, very aesthetic. It is perfect for ornamental ponds, parks, visible water bodies, and areas where decorative effect is important.

Operation remains discreet: from outside, you mainly hear the murmur of the water.

Submersible motor

The motor is submerged under the float, making it much more visually discreet. This version is ideal for natural water bodies, swimming areas, or places where visual impact of the installation should be minimized.

It produces a lower and wider fountain. This is also the version suited for winter operation to locally limit ice formation. The IP68 stainless steel motor is designed for continuous operation.

With nearly identical performance, oxygenation, and consumption, the choice between the two versions mainly depends on the desired aesthetics, sought discretion, and winter use.

Technical specifications

Model Motor power Water flow rate Active area (ø) Treated surface (indicative) Suction depth
Aquitechnics 400 0.40 kW 120 m³/h 20 m ≈ 500 m² up to 1 m
Aquitechnics 550 0.55 kW 150 m³/h 25 m ≈ 750 m² up to 1.25 m
Aquitechnics 750 0.75 kW 240 m³/h 35 m ≈ 1000 m² up to 1.50 m

Minimum water depth: 0.60 m. Fountain height: 0.70 to 0.85 m depending on version and installation conditions. Power supply 230 V for the 400 model or 230/400 V depending on model. Approximate dimensions: ø 80 cm, height 75 cm. Approximate weight: 30 kg. A version with a submersible motor is available for each power, with slightly higher flow rates and active zones depending on configuration.

Which model to choose?

Your water body Recommended model
Pond up to 500 m² Aquitechnics 400 (0.40 kW)
Pond or basin from 500 to 1000 m² Aquitechnics 550 (0.55 kW)
Large pond, lake, or swimming area over 1000 m² Aquitechnics 750 (0.75 kW)

These surface areas are given as an indication. Depth, fish density, presence of mud, water temperature, and organic load strongly influence sizing. If in doubt, contact us: at Foudebassin, we can help you choose the aerator best suited to your water body.

Design & quality

  • Protective basket, fittings, motor shafts, and screws made of stainless materials.
  • Robust polyethylene float, available in blue or green depending on configuration.
  • Stainless steel strainer basket to protect the propeller from fish and debris.
  • Available mesh sizes: standard 9.5 mm, 5.5 mm, or 18 mm as needed.
  • Motor protected against thermal overload.
  • Device delivered ready to use with cable and protection device.
  • Proven design for continuous operation and long durability.

Installation & safety

The floating aerator is positioned using two ropes tied to the banks. It should never be anchored or pulled by the power cable. The power supply must be protected by a 30 mA differential circuit breaker and connected outside the flood zone.

Maintenance remains limited: clean the strainer basket from time to time, check for debris around the propeller, and verify the proper functioning of the device at least once a year. The aerator must never operate out of the water.

Surface emulsifier or bottom aeration?

A surface oxygenator is ideal for quickly supplying a large amount of oxygen, creating movement, and securing a large water surface. In a deep, very muddy, or strongly stratified pond, it may be useful to complement it with bottom aeration to also work on the deeper layers.

Foudebassin Advice — For large ponds rich in silt, combining a surface oxygenating emulsifier with bottom aeration often yields the best results. To understand the difference between the two solutions, check out our guide: Bottom aeration or surface oxygenator?

Why does Foudebassin recommend this solution?

We recommend Aquitechnics emulsifiers when a large pond owner seeks a reliable, visible, and powerful solution to improve oxygenation, reduce stagnant zones, and secure their water body during critical periods.

This is a particularly interesting solution for large fish ponds, natural ponds, swimming areas, private lakes, and all water bodies where oxygen becomes a limiting factor.

A large water body remains alive only if oxygen circulates continuously. By providing powerful oxygenation, effective mixing, and an elegant fountain, the Aquitechnics emulsifier sustainably contributes to the biological balance of your pond while protecting your fish during the most critical periods.

For years, we have been installing and advising oxygenation systems for private ponds, swimming areas, lakes, and water bodies spanning several thousand square meters. Aquitechnics emulsifiers are among the equipment we most recommend when the goal is to quickly supply a large area with plenty of oxygen.

Cyanobacteria in your pond?

Greenish-blue water, surface scums, or a swimming hazard? Combine your Aquitechnics surface aerator with CyanoClear OASE for fast action against cyanobacteria and their toxins. The mixing created by the emulsifier optimizes the treatment’s diffusion where cyanobacteria naturally concentrate: on the surface.
