Whenever we have created a new pond at the nursery, the goal has been to find the balance of the pond naturally with just the plants. So we will see in this article, how does it work? Which and how many plants should we install? And also see some small tips.
To find the balance of the basin, three types of plants are necessary, each with a specific function: oxygenating, water lilies and emerging.
They live under water and bring, as their name suggests, oxygen to the water. These plants are characterized above all by the fact that they are vigorous plants, which will, even if they are installed in aquatic baskets at the start, develop then overflow the basket and settle on the entire bottom of the basin using the deposit natural that forms. They will therefore have a greater function of oxygenation and in addition they will exploit the bottom sediment. They live mainly underwater, but some can pose their foliage also on the water or even above the water, which can bring an aesthetic appeal to the ponds.
The foliage placed on the water brings a lot to the balance of the pond placed. Thus, on the water, it slows down the heating of the water. A warming that algae love. One important thing is that not all water lilies live with the same height of water above them. For example, the small water lilies like to be between 15 and 30 cm of water, some between 30 and 60 cm, others between 51m and the very large between 61.50m.
So, for the choice of the water lily, it is necessary to take into account the depth of your pond. But what is also very important is to take into account the width of your pool and to compare it with the width that your water lily will take on as an adult. Take the example of water lilies with a depth between 61.50m which have a deployment of two and a half to three square meters on the water.
Thus, if your pond has the desired depth but is not more than one meter 52 wide, the foliage will overflow on the sides of the pond and will give a very mediocre and very unsightly effect. In this case, it is preferable to take a water lily of less spread and to play on the depth of the basin by overcoming the basket of the much more harmonious water lily.
Emerging plants are distinguished by their two parts which are: the vegetative apparatus and the reproductive apparatus located above the water and the other part, which are the roots located under the water. They bring a lot of decorative aspect to the basin. They are also very useful for the fauna that lives around or in the water. They serve as food for some, perches for example for dragonflies and hiding places for others.
For the balance of the pelvis, they play an important role. They have a purifying role with their roots which collect nutrients from the water. It is for this reason that we strongly advise you to install them in aquatic baskets so that they have a good purification function.
