Est-ce que certaines plantes aquatiques éliminent l'eau verte?

Do some aquatic plants remove green water?

Do some aquatic plants eliminate green water? In this micro-guide, we will mainly address the body of water part, but it is the same biology in an aquarium.

Yes, some aquatic plants can help eliminate green water , which is caused by excessive algae growth. Aquatic plants absorb the nutrients that algae need to grow, which can help regulate its growth. Aquatic plants will "compete" with the algae.

The problem often arises in winter , the pond can have a surge of algae because your aquatic plants are generally in "vegetative rest". We can therefore find other solutions to eliminate green water, which you can find by clicking right here: solutions against green water in ponds .

Additionally, many aquatic plants (which you can order from our online store here - aquatic nursery ) produce oxygen through photosynthesis, which can help maintain adequate oxygen levels in the water and promote the growth of bacteria that consume the algae.

However, it is important to note that adding aquatic plants alone will not solve the green water problem. It is also important to maintain an adequate level of filtration and water cleaning and monitor nutrient levels in the water to prevent excessive algae growth.

Here is a guide to help eliminate green water in a pond or basin:

  1. Monitor nutrient levels in the water, especially phosphates and nitrates. High levels of these nutrients can contribute to algae growth. It is also very important to check the pH of the water. You can easily find strip testers to observe these parameters, or contact a pond water analysis specialist if you are not getting out of a pond.

  2. Use an effective pond filter to remove debris and nutrients that can contribute to algae growth. It is important to size your filtration correctly in relation to the quantity of fish and your water volume. A question? Contact us, we have been sizing and installing filtration systems for over 10 years throughout France & Belgium.

  3. Clean the bottom of the pond regularly to remove debris and dead algae which can contain nutrients that feed the algae. You can use a suitable net, or a pond & pool vacuum.

  4. Use a water clarifier to flocculate suspended particles and algae, which makes it easier for them to filter through the filter. This is generally a very effective method in the short term. We recommend PONDCLEAR from OASE, which is very reliable and will flocculate the material. If you are looking for more natural solutions, you can use NAUTEX.

  5. Add aquatic plants that absorb the nutrients algae need to grow, such as:

  • Water mint (Mentha aquatica)
  • Pencil-leaved watermilfoil (Myriophyllum spicatum)
  • Water lily (Nymphaea sp.)
  • Water basil (Ocimum basilicum)
  • Water lily (Nymphaea sp.)
  • Pontedery (Pontederia Cordata)
  • The iris
  1. Use a quality food for your fish (avoid overfeeding, everything must be gone within 5 minutes) as this can contribute to algae growth by adding too many nutrients to the water.

  2. Use treatments specially designed to kill algae, but use them with caution because they can be harmful to fish and other aquatic animals. One of the best solutions is to aerate your pond, balance the pH (you can use nautex in a natural solution or barley straw). Find all the solutions for treating green water by clicking here.

It is important to note that removing green water can be a slow and ongoing process, and it is recommended to regularly monitor nutrient levels and water conditions to prevent excessive algae growth. Actuellement je suis équipée d’une pompe et d’un filtre agri Line pr-UV 7w et une pompe pondoMax éco 1500 mais l’eau est verte
